The
CBS Radio Mystery Theater
As a kid I can recall tuning in my radio late at night. While laying in bed, I can remember the anticipation...
Then, the now late E.G. Marshall would great me in what I thought was a tomb:

And so would begin another terrifying adventure into the unknown!
CBS Radio Mystery Theater was broadcast from January 1974 until December of 1982. In its original nine year adventure, nearly 1,500 episodes were created. I would often listen to the show alone, under my covers and hope that my parents did not catch me listening.
The show was broadcast on CBS affiliates, though some chose not to carry the broadcast. The original producer and director of Radio Mystery Theater was Himan Brown and E.G. Marshall was the host from 1973 until 1982. Due to poor health, Tammy Grimes became the host until the end of its original run in 1982.
Many famous people took on roles for Mystery Theater. Some included Anges Moorehead, Fred Gwynne, Casey Kasem, Keir Dulea, John Lithgow, Tony Roberts, and Richard Crenna.
Several revivals of the show were attempted, including a broadcast aired on National Public Radio stations. Due to a lack of interest, these rebroadcasts have been discontinued.
However, all hope is not lost! You can get a chance to hear episodes in one of two ways!
You can now tune in every night at 9:05 p.m. and catch an episode of Radio Mystery Theater! The WRVO stations in the New York area began airing the episodes in order starting on January 1, 2001.
If you think you may have a hard time tuning in WRVO on your radio, then you can listen LIVE on the Internet! Simply click the logo below and tune in around 9:00 each evening!*

The other way to listen is to download episodes off the Internet! There are several places where you can get mp3 files of the original episodes hosted by Marshall and Grimes. Listed below are several sites that offer downloads and discuss Radio Mystery Theater in much greater detail. Have fun looking around these sites and why not give Radio Mystery Theater a try?
